Greek designer, Emma Henning grew up in Athens, Greece and moved to the U.S. at the age of 14. Although she graduated from the Cooking and Hospitality Institute of Chicago, she eventually went on to pursue her passion in life, fashion. In 2013, FUN Girl Clothing was founded, and through her clothing company, Emma has created a clothing line specifically for girls, from newborns to young adults. She designs active-wear and sleepwear which is age appropriate for girls, many of which bear positive messages and quotations, so as to promote values and ambition in the lives of younger girls.
She says that her daughter and two stepdaughters are her two muses and inspired her to start a line of clothing which would have a positive impact on younger girls. She calls them her 'three stars' and the FUN Girl domain, www.fungirl3.com, contains the number three.
Her Hellenic background has influenced both her life and her focus on her work, and Emma says that having grown up in Greece, it was rather laid back, and she experienced how Greeks always put family before all else. Today, she always puts family first and ensures that they have her attention and devotion, as her company is second to them. As a Greek she says she tends to make mountains out of molehills, insisting that her "Greek drama needs to go."
When doing market research, she discovered that there is a gap in the market for a range of children's clothing which promote positive messages. She created her line to promote being humble and modest with clothing which displays inspiring quotes, and not just statements like, "I am a diva," but ones which are more meaningful so that she can bring about change with sayings like, "live to dream" and "live to love."
In future, Emma is looking at is looking at investing in a new line of cosmetic and beauty products, as well as a line of clothing for boys, FUN Boy.
