Town and Country magazine brings out an annual issue each September where it features the lives some of the high society debutantes. The issue is entitled: The Modern Swan and this year they have featured a young Greek heiress, Princess Maria-Olympia of Greece, and her fairytale life.
The 20-year-old was raised in London and is currently studying at the Parsons School of Design in New York. The society girl is the daughter of Pavlos, Crown Prince of Greece and Crown Princess of Greece Marie-Chantal Miller.
The heiress makes frequent trips between Paris and the Greek islands when she's not studying in the Big Apple. Her family settled in London when she was seven years of age, and although the monarchy's reign came to an end in 1973, the family have held onto their titles and still socialize with the European royals. Her parents even chose Prince Charles to be her godfather.
Maria-Olympia recently celebrated her twentieth birthday where she flew to Mykonos with a group of close friends. The group were all beautifully tanned and impeccably dressed and included her cousin, Talita Von Furstenberg, granddaughter of Diane Von Furstenberg, one of New York's top designers.
"It's not just the circles she moves in that makes her comparable to a real-life Blair Waldorf or Serena Van Der Woodsen," it's her high sense of fashion. Taking a glimpse at her Instagram shots she has quite a lavish wardrobe which includes the likes of Valentino, Michael Kors, Balmain and Louis Vuitton. She has also featured in numerous fashion magazines such as Teen Vogue, Vanity Fair, and Tatler.
Maria-Olympia may still be a student, but she has made it to some of the most exclusive fashion shows. Her interest in fashion led her to do a three-week internship in the couture department of the Dior atelier. Unlike the other students, she always has front row seats when it comes to the Dior shows, rubbing shoulders with celebrities.
In 2000 her mother launched a very successful luxury children's wear label, Marie-Chantal, with boutiques in Chelsea and Notting Hill. Marie Chantal's 1995 wedding depicts her attitude towards high fashion which saw her dressed in a beautiful silk valentine wedding gown. The design atelier also made sixty-two outfits for the wedding party including one for Queen Sofia of Spain.
The princess revealed that the best fashion advice she ever received came from her family. From her grandmother to her mother, to her, she was told: "It is always better to be overdressed than underdressed," and added that one never knows whom you may meet out on the street." Her father also offered her some fashion advice saying, "Please, Olympia, wear shoes you can last the night in."
So, as you can see, Maria-Olympia has style and class running through her veins and is sure to launch an amazing career as a designer once she has completed her studies. For a further glimpse into her life, follow her on Instagram @olympiagreece.
