Mary Katrantzou has become a household name in the Greek fashion world, and comes from a family with a creative background, with a father who worked as a textile designer and a mom for an interior designer. So, it's not surprising that she developed a passion for fashion at an early age.
She was born in Athens in 1983 and moved abroad to the States to study architecture and textile design. Upon graduating, Mary moved into the world of fashion, although her primary focus was on print, thus still being able to apply her knowledge of textile design. She became fascinated by the way which prints and patterns could alter a women's silhouette. So much so, that she went on to study fashion, and has since created her own brand.

Mary sees Greek style as "a sense of freedom," being able to wear the same outfit in different places and different times comfortably, stylishly and with lots of color and glamor as well. The Greek Isles have inspired Mary's latest designs in which she has included many loose pleats and draping garments. She has also incorporated much of the traditional Greek embroidery, with the lacework reflecting the much-loved Greek folk costumes which one sees in Museums and on cultural tours.
Mary has designed some incredible styles and classy versions of Greek sandals. She says that they are one of the best fashion accessories one can own on the Greek islands, "the trick is to walk into the sea wearing them; so they look worn in and don't slip." These sandals are comfy, not too pricey, and you can find them all over the islands.
So, this is a great summer purchase to make, and if you happen to come across one of her stores, you can try a pair of her exclusively made Greek sandals to take home with you.
