The 2016 Los Angeles Greek Film Festival (LAGFF) was once again an extraordinary event, during which the best of Greek film talent was highlighted and presented. This year was the tenth annual LAGFF and more than fifty screenings were presented and included one of the latest Greek films, Worlds Apart, which was directed by Christopher Papakaliatis.
The festival took place over five days and nights in Hollywood in June and included an exclusive Filmmakers Brunch hosted at the home of the Consul General of Greece. The closing night included the screening of Worlds Apart, followed by the Orpheus Awards closing ceremony presented by Mena Suvari. The evening drew to a close with a courtyard reception and after party. Guests were served a variety of Greek wines, a light buffet and given a musical performance by the LAGFF resident DJ, Chris Douridas who is also a two-time Grammy nominee.
Numerous awards were presented during the closing ceremony, including honorary Orpheus Awards. These honorary awards went to the CEO and Chairman of Twentieth Century Fox, Jim Gianopulos and Academy Award Winner J.K. Simmons who were recognized for their efforts in the Hollywood and Greek cinema industry.

Of course, many Greek films and films by Greek directors in line for an Orpheus Award. The Audience Award went to Worlds Apart by Christopher Papakaliatis. The numerous Jury Awards included Riverbanks for Best Fiction Feature Film and Stagnation which received the Van Vlahakis Award for the Best Short Fiction Film. Honorable Mention was given to Golden Dawn: A Personal Affair which was awarded the Best Documentary Film.
Fourth International Project Discovery Awards included the MFI Scholarship and Aegean Award which went to Nazli Elif Durlu for "Zuhal." Honorable Mention was given to Harris Raftogiannis for The River.
