'The Athenian,' one of the new additions to the popular markets in London, brings some traditional Greek flavors to the streets of the city. The stall provides its customers with some unique recipes using only the freshest ingredients. In the UK, one tends to find the same dishes on the menu in restaurants, many of which lack the authentic taste and 'The Athenian' hopes to share these traditional flavors with the London community.
The owners, Efthymios and Osian, were inspired by the dishes prepared in a remote part of Greece by a local named Mrs. Koula. It was a "life-changing experience" for them as they cooked together and shared recipes in a small, mountain village. After trying out some of her recipes, they felt that they would like to bring their experience to the London community, and this is how it all started for them.
If you happen to stop by one of their stalls, you can be introduced dishes like Fava, which is a dip made from yellow split peas. Tyrokafteri, a spicy, feta cheese dip is also on the menu for their customers, as well as a Cretan salad. The dishes are all freshly and simply prepared, so you'll be able to have some unique Greek flavors.
If you prefer to stick to one of your favorite Greek dishes, they also serve the more popular meals, including souvlaki. Their souvlaki is prepared using authentically prepared round, soft, flatbread with either a chicken or pork skewers as the filling, and topped with some fresh red onions, lettuce, tomato, and parsley, with a tasty dip of your choice.
The pita bread, yogurt, olive oils and the olives used in preparing their delicious meals are all imported from small producers in Greece, ensuring excellent quality and flavor.
'The Athenian' also feature their stalls at festivals and pop–ups and are happy to cater for events upon request.
